Everything that happens when you use it. The reasoning behind it is on Philosophy, and the one paid feature is on Ads.
Getting in
ReadingNo account is needed to read, to search or to open the editor and type. An account is needed to keep a note or to publish one.
AccountSign in with Google or Apple. Nothing is posted to either. You must be 18 or over.
UsernameChosen once, three to twenty characters. It is never changed, and it is never given to another person, even after you delete your account.
Human checkYou type one short line by hand. Only you ever see it.
Writing
The editorOne editor, and every character is typed into it. Paste, autocorrect, dictation and predictive text are off, so nothing can be produced elsewhere and dropped in.
ActionsAfter three seconds of typing, two actions open: Private and Publish.
EditingA note cannot be edited once it exists. Delete it and type it again.
FormatNotes are plain text. Website addresses stay as plain text and are not clickable.
ReceiptEach note carries a record of how it was typed: time taken, keystrokes, corrections, and the fact that nothing was pasted.
Private or public
PrivateRead by you alone, with no limits on what you write.
PublicAppears in Search, and in the Feed of the people who follow you.
SwitchingA private note becomes public after a content check. A public note returns to private at any time, at once.
Reading
FeedShows the people you follow, newest first. Follow nobody and it stays empty. There is no global timeline and nothing is recommended to you.
SearchFinds public notes and the people who wrote them. You type what you are looking for; nothing is suggested.
Not shownNo likes, no comments, no view counts, no follower counts, no trending, no algorithm.
Keeping it clean
BeforeProhibited content is blocked or flagged before a note becomes public.
ReportingAny member reports a public note and states a reason. Enough reports removes it from every surface at once and returns it to private.
AfterA note that was reported once is flagged. A later attempt to make it public gets a human review first. A note that was never reported goes live at once.
Where it runs, and what it costs
PlatformA web app that works online only. Publishing happens live, in the moment. Add it to your home screen for an app view.
CostFree for every member, with nothing locked. It is funded by the $5 ads and by an optional $5 contribution. Your experience is the same either way.
